May 5 is officially Maryland’s Statewide Independent Living Day!

The first Statewide Independent Living Day was proclaimed by Governor Larry Hogan on May 5, 2022. Since then, Governor Wes Moore has continued the tradition each year and on May 5, 2024, Maryland SILC proudly celebrated the third annual Maryland Independent Living Day.

Maryland’s vision for Independent Living is for people with disabilities to have information, choices, and control over the services and supports in their lives so they can participate fully in all aspects of society.

Maryland SILC works to promote this philosophy in partnership with local Centers for Independent Living, which includes consumer control, peer support, self-help, self-determination, equal access, and individual and systems advocacy.
