The Maryland Statewide Independent Living Council is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Measures to Support Accessibility

The Maryland Statewide Independent Living Council takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of our website:

  • Integrate accessibility into our daily practices.
  • Partner with accessibility specialists who provide ongoing accessibility reviews and recommended accessibility fixes.
  • Provide continual accessibility training for our staff.

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Our website accessibility has been verified by experts in accessible evaluation and all accessibility barriers except for those that are platform barriers have been corrected.

Compliance was determined through accessibility reviews and testing, assessing accessibility using a combination of automated and manual testing. Our tools and methods include testing with a keyboard, the JAWS and VoiceOver screen readers, color contrast checks, among others.
