Maryland SILC announces launch of the cup campaign
Below is the contents of a message sent to all council members and IL Partners:
Dear Council Members & IL Partners,
I hope this email finds you all well.
The Maryland SILC and the CILs are officially launching the Courage To Use Your Power (CUP) Campaign on March 5th at 5:00 p.m. Please find two documents attached to this email announcing the official launch details.
I cannot emphasize enough how vital it is that we share this information with everyone we know—neighbors, friends, and family—and then as broadly as possible with your professional networks, partner agencies, and local organizations.
Why This Matters
As we roll this out, please keep a specific mindset at the forefront: CUP is not just a “disability matter”—it is an IL (Independent Living) matter. The key emphasis here is on Independence, which truly means Control. This campaign is rooted in our fundamental desire and necessity to maintain control over every aspect of our lives.
The Core of the Campaign
The CUP Campaign is about us—both individually and collectively. It is designed to:
- Spotlight our reality: We are bringing attention to the issues that matter, the laws that hinder us, and the systemic barriers that prevent an equal playing field.
- Highlight our Council: This is an opportunity to showcase exactly what we do and demonstrate what makes our work unique and impactful.
- Make Noise: We are letting Maryland know we are here, and we are doing something on a scale that has never been seen before.
We Are Not Alone
This launch is just the beginning. We have a historic opportunity to show why we make a difference, and the best part is that we are doing this together. We don’t have to carry this mission alone.
