MSILC Joins COWOC for an Inspiring Youth Camp Day
The Maryland Statewide Independent Living Council (MSILC) had the privilege of attending the Youth Camp in support of the Creating Opportunities Within Our Community (COWOC).
It was a dynamic day packed with outdoor fun and meaningful connection. Youth participants spent the day enjoying horseback riding, archery, and a variety of interactive team activities. Beyond the recreation, the event provided a wonderful platform for hands-on learning and advocacy. We had great conversations with the youths about disability awareness, accessibility, and inclusion, and even spent time learning and communicating together using Sign Language.
We were also honored to connect with Delegate Karen Toles during the event, sharing in our joint commitment to supporting youth and promoting inclusive communities across Maryland.
MSILC is proud to partner with COWOC and looks forward to continuing our support for programs that empower and inspire our state’s youth.

Day 3 of RISE Summer Camp was one for the books!
Our students had an unforgettable day at Glennwood Farm in Upper Marlboro, where they experienced the joy of horseback riding while building confidence, trust, responsibility, and resilience.
At RISE Summer Camp, every activity is intentional. We’re helping middle school students Reengage, receive early Intervention, gain Support, and become Empowered through hands-on learning, leadership development, mentoring, career exploration, and experiences they’ll never forget.
We were honored to welcome Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Tara H. Jackson, Maryland State Delegate Karen Toles, and Lorna-Mae Silcott, Executive Director of the Maryland Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC). Thank you for investing your time and encouragement in the next generation of leaders.
